Balance and Vestibular Therapy

The vestibular system is the area of the inner ear and the brain that helps control balance and eye movements. If the inner ear or the brain is damaged by disease or injury, vestibular disorders can result.

Treatments include:

  • Integration of visual and vestibular information, and somatosensory feedback, to maintain balance control and postural stability
  • Balance training, including the ability to perform the Canalith Repositioning paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
  • Instruction in performance of functional skills, such as bed mobility, transfers to and from variable surfaces, gait training, fall recovery, and floor transfers
